Mission Statement and Vision of the Saint Matthew Christian Church
EQUIPPING THE SAINTS FOR THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY!!! (Ephesians 4:12)
Ephesians 4:12-13 (KJV) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13] Until we come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:
Every believer is given some gift of grace, for their mutual help. God’s children are growing, as long as they are in this world; and the Christian’s growth tends to the glory of Christ. The more a man finds himself drawn out to improve in his situation, and according to his measure, all that he has received, to the spiritual good of others, he may the more certainly believe that he has the grace of sincere love and charity rooted in his heart.
We are advancing toward our Mission Statement via teaching and training, which is essential toward acquiring this goal. Biblical teaching will perpetuate Spiritual Growth. Church training regarding positions, roles and responsibilities is also essential.
WHY THIS MISSION STATEMENT SUPPORTS OUR VISION:
Saint Matthew’s goal is more of growing persons than that of growing power or prestige. We would like to cultivate an atmosphere where dreaming can take place and where the membership can participate in the dream vision. While the average lay-person usually judges the pastor by the message of the sermon, true church growth must evolve from a sound program of Christian Education.
The Key to successfully obtaining our vision is TRAIN; TRAIN; and TRAIN! The pastor should NOT be the only instructor. There must be adequate teaching and training for church membership and church leadership. Pastor Sheppard’s primary goal in this area is to make use of applicable staff, giving guidance in the choice of instructional materials, and making certain that the officers and teachers feel confident toward training others. This while we are all striving toward reaching our ultimate goal, which is to successfully obtain our Vision.
THE SAINT MATTHEW CHRISTIAN CHURCH VISION
Our Vision is one that will grow and change, as Saint Matthew will continue to grow and change. Input (as we grow) from the membership is not only welcomed, but also encouraged. Our Vision is to evangelize our community in efforts to win lost souls to Christ. To provide an outlet and solutions for those who are in need. This will include meeting various needs in the church and the community relating to Educational, Social, Drugs & Alcohol Rehabilitation, Gang & Violence Prevention, Spousal & Child Abuse Prevention, Teen-age Pregnancy Prevention, Aids Prevention, etc. This will be incorporated in a Spiritual Environment where the Word of God is diligently taught and passionately practiced by all members of the Saint Matthew Christian Family.
