Our Roof Repair GOFUNDME Help
Greetings! My name is Rev Wayne Sheppard, Pastor of the Saint Matthew Christian Church, formerly known as Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. We are a Non-Profit Certified Charity Organization that provide community services such as feeding, clothing, and overall nurturing to those that are less fortunate.
Approximately a month ago we had two major storms here in Sacramento. Both storms came with heavy wind and rain which was a week a part in Feb 2019. When we arrived at Church the Sunday after the storms our ceiling had separated and was hanging, and water had poured through onto the carpet and inside the walls. The next day we immediately made a call to our insurance carrier and made a claim. Unfortunately, the following week we had another storm that produced more water. We put out buckets and plastic sheets to try and stop the damage that was occurring inside the Sanctuary.
Finally, we had a claim examiner come out the following week to assess the situation. After coming out to see the damage the claim examiner became ill and was unable to file this claim for another week. When the contractors were able to come out, they discovered that we had mold and major water damage in our ceiling, walls, carpet, floors, and insulation throughout our Pulpit and the surrounding area. Everything in this area had to be torn out and removed.
The wind caused damage to our flashing on the roof, which is what caused the water to come inside. Our policy covers the water and mold damage. Once the mold and water damage and everything was removed, the contractors did an assessment to see what was needed to put the building back in the condition it was before the damage. Upon a complete professional inspection, it was discovered our two-part slanted and flat roof on our building needed to be completely removed and replaced. They also discovered we have dry rotted wood around the complete Church, along with worn-out gutters that need to be completely removed and replaced. It was noted that the stucco underneath the eaves need to be repaired or replaced. Although our roof replacement estimate is at $22,000.00 thus far, we won’t know the extent of the total cost until the roof and the wood siding is removed. We will know more once the shingles are removed, however we anticipate a much greater cost due to the age of our 50-year-old building. We are enclosing pictures along with video of the damaged roof, the wood rot, and the gutters..
We are unable to hold services or utilize our sanctuary and have been meeting in our overflow dining area each Sunday. We must move tables and chairs around weekly in the overflow dining area to accommodate the Food Ministry as well as other needed activities.
To meet our exorbitant cost of repairs and replacement we are starting a GoFundMe account and are humbly submitting a request for your financial assistance. If you could support our GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, friends, family, and others, we would greatly appreciate it. We understand that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 helps us get closer to our goal of $50,000! Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to answer them. We are ever so grateful to you for your kind benevolent assistance regarding this urgent matter. Again, from the depth of our hearts we thank you. Saint Matthew Christian Church Roof Inspection Video
